What to Feed:
There is no doubt that from the moment your Newfie is unleashed upon the world, you will be asked by virtually every member of the public about their eating habits.
- "Oh my god, how much do they eat?"
- "I bet he/she/they eat you out of house and home?"
- "I hope you have a lot of money?"
- "Come here Princess, 'that' looks hungry...." whilst pulling a feisty Chihuahua away from your totally unbothered Newfoundland.
Many people are surprised when asked how much a Newfoundland eats, expecting a vast quantity to be consumed. In reality, they don't eat that much more than a Labrador (which I should know since I have one). They are, however, not as energetic as Labradors so burn the food off at a slower rate.
There are no right or wrong ways to feed your Newfoundland other than finding something with a good, high quality mix of ingredients to give them everything they need whilst growing, or to maintain weight, and finding something they are happy with and enjoy eating on a daily basis.
You're looking for a food tailored to a giant breed that will give you a slow and steady growth rate to ensure you have built a solid support structure for the Behemoth that evolves from your diddy bear cub. Strong healthy bones, healthy organs and muscles are your priority.
You may want to feed them a raw or dry food diet. The subsequent pages in this category will give you a good breakdown of both options so you can make the decision of what is the best for your and your dog moving forward.
